How do I apply?

Step 1: Need an account?  Click the sign up button to create an account using your email. To create an account using your social media profile click on the appropriate Facebook, LinkedIn, or Twitter icon on the right hand side of the homepageAlready have an account? Sign in on the homepage using your email address and password to access your profile. Once logged in, you will be able to see the status of your prior applications and apply for new positions. 

After you sign up, check your email for an account activation link. You should receive the email within a couple of minutes. Make sure to type your email correctly!

Step 2: Complete the online application form; including the names of 3 references.

Step 3: Upload a cover letter (maximum one page).

Step 4: Upload your curriculum vitae (maximum three pages).

Step 5: Upload up to two samples of your work that demonstrate your skills relevant to the position you are applying for.

Step 6: Click on the Submit Full Application button.

What types of vacancies are posted on the site?
A range of AKFC employment openings will be posted on this site including:
 
CADEX - The Canadian Development Exchange (CADEX) program places skilled professional Canadians with short and long-term assignments with AKF field partners and other AKDN institutions. CADEX encompasses four types of placements: 1) Young Professionals 2) Short-term consultants 3) Technical cooperation (mid-career and long-term), and 4) Short term Research and Learning placements.
 
Consultancies – AKFC provides/arranges technical assistance consultancies to build the capacity of our Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) partner organizations. Technical assistance may include consultancies in Monitoring & Evaluation, Gender, Health, Environment, Education, Public Affairs, Project Management & Evaluation, and much more.
 
Local – Job position at our local office in Ottawa, ON, Canada. These could consist of full-time, part-time, permanent, short-term, seasonal, internship and volunteer positions working for AKFC.

How long does the application process take?
To register and apply for a position should take no longer than 15-20 minutes to complete if you have prepared all your documents required for uploading ahead of time. If you do not have time to fully complete your application, you can save it and login at a later date to complete it. *Remember to complete and submit your application before the deadline.
 
Generally (unless otherwise specified in the job ad), you will hear back from us between 2-4 weeks of the closing date of that particular position. Emails will be sent to both applicants who are selected for an interview as well as those who are not selected.  If delays in recruitment occur, we will make every effort to let you know that the process will take longer than expected.

Can I upload a cover letter and other attachments?
You are required to include a cover letter, CV and two writing samples with your application. Please upload these in the relevant locations provided.

What do I put for the Name of my Submission?
At the beginning of your application you will be asked to type in the “Name of Submission.” Please type your full name <First Name Last Name> in the box.

Navigating the Tasks… and What the Buttons Mean
The application process is comprised of the following tasks: fill out a form, upload documents, and identify a recommender. Each page within a task ends with different buttons; their meanings are explained here:
  • Save and Continue Editing – use this to save your on-line work and stay on the same page.
  • Save and Exit – use this to save your on-line work and exit the task. You do not exit or logout of the application system, just the task.
  • Back / Next – for multi-page tasks such as the application form, use these buttons to move between pages. *Note: you must complete required information on a page before moving away from it, or Save and Exit the task if you do not wish to complete the required information at that time.
  • Back to Submission (located at the top right) – to quit a task without saving any changes since your last save.
  • Submit (in a document upload task) - when you press the Submit button in an upload document task, you are performing the upload, not submitting your entire application.

Can I change a recommender once I submit my application?
No, you can only change a recommender before you submit your application. Simply login to your account and change the information for that particular recommender in your application form.

Notifications
You should receive the following emails:
  • Acknowledgement when you register. Click the link in the email to verify that it is truly your intention to apply (and not someone else who put in your email address)
  • Acknowledgement when you submit your application
  • An email indicating the status of your application 2-4 weeks after the position is closed.

Who has access to my data once I have registered?
Your details will only be seen by AKFC staff directly responsible for the recruitment of the position(s) you applied for.

Application Status
By logging in to your online account, you can check the status of your application. You can also withdraw your job submission if the job is at the early stages of the selection process.

Edit Application
You entire application including the application form, cv, cover letter and writing samples can be edited by logging into your account and selecting the edit action item under each section. Once an application has been submitted or the closing date for the job has passed your application can no longer be edited but you will still be able to view it.

Edit Account Settings
If you would like to make changes to account information (i.e.: Name, Email, Password) you can do this via the drop down menu under your name on the top right hand side of the screen.
